Hino Motors traces its origins to Tokyo Gas Industry Co., Ltd., a company founded in 1910 to produce gas equipment. Initially serving Chiyoda Gas, a competitor to Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., the company was led by Tsunenori Tokuhisa and later by Goro Matsukata, who expanded its business into electrical products and munitions. Matsukata’s strategic foresight led to the company's entry into the automobile industry, resulting in the production of Japan’s first mass-produced trucks.
